Walking the Borgo Canonica trail

01 · Borgo Canonica

Walking the Borgo Canonica trail

Because only electric cars are used in the surrounding area, the air around the borgo is still pure, just as it was centuries ago. You can walk in complete peace through the Itria Valley, where the scenery shifts with every season. Along the paths through the wood above the borgo there are green areas for reading and exercise.

By boat into the sea caves

The coast of Polignano a Mare is dotted with hollows and caves that hold wonderful plays of light and colour. A boat trip lets you appreciate the purity of some of Italy’s most celebrated waters. The most famous cave is the Grotta Palazzese, mentioned by D’Alembert and Diderot and immortalised by the engraver Louis Jean Desprez in 1778.

If there is a place where blue turns blue, it is Polignano a Mare, “the pearl of the Adriatic”. It is known for the Red Bull Cliff Diving — a 27-metre dive — and has held the Blue Flag since 2008. On the seafront the statue of Domenico Modugno smiles at his home town: a tribute to the singer of “Volare”.
